Replace Ascaso I2 with Baratza Vario, Mazzer Super Jolly or other?

Postby sllo on Thu Dec 29, 2011 2:24 pm

I have a Bezzera BZ10 and an Ascaso I2 and I am thinking of replacing my grinder with a new Baratza Vario or a used Mazzer Super Jolly.
What I really want to know, is it worth it as far as grinding quality is concerned?
Am I going to be able to extract a noticeable better espresso with the Vario or the Jolly than the Ascaso?

I will give you my opinion...no. I used an I2 for 3 years & other than the slow speed was very pleased with the taste profile. I supplied the grind samples from it and my M7k to Jim for the grind analysis project: TGP II: Particle Distribution Analysis of Grinder Adjustments - Interim Results
I own two SJ's and the person that I did all the grind samples with, has the Mazzer Kony (along with a Mazzer Mini, we didn't test) and a Baratza Vario, I would recommend saving up for a 68mm conical like the M7k or K10.
Again, merely my opinion...

those two grinders are really out of my budget, very expensive.
