Quickmill Silvano vs. Crossland CC1

Postby Mr Faineant on Thu Dec 22, 2011 12:35 pm

Hello everybody,

I have been using a cheap Breville Modena for around 6 months, with a Vario for a grinder. I have now saved enough to upgrade my machine, and am deliberating between the CC1 and the Silvano. Does anyone have any experience with both? My main consideration is the taste of the drinks produced, and the consistency of such. Also, I am put off by the CC1 by the annoying looking water tank, but I would live with this if the drinks are better.

The price difference is around $300, which I am happy to spend if it is worth it.

If there are other considerations that I should throw into the mix, I would also love to hear them.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have a Silvano which is capable of making very nice espresso and I am waiting for my turn with a unit being shipped to various enthusiasts. I am not sure what your time frame is for making the purchase but if you are not in a hurry I can give you my take on each machine. If you are looking to buy a unit soon then I can give my opinion on the Silvano still.

A new $995 machine is available from 1st line.net called the Cuadra - these look like a lot of bang for the buck if you want a more traditional E-61 HX machine.

^^^^ I'd get the Cuadra if I were you. It's a HX machine, which is better than single boiler+thermoblock.

Sorry you had a bad experience with your Silvano. How long does it take you now to steam milk with your La Peppina?

After much deliberation I am excited to report that I have ordered a Cuadra. I cannot find a single negative review of the machine, and it seems like an exceptional price for highly regarded machine. I will post an update after I've used it for a week.

Thanks for your input!
