Pump types for HX espresso machines - rotary vs vibratory - Page 2

Godshot, rotary pumps also reach full pressure immediately, where as vibes build to full pressure and provide some level of preinfusion. I believe the E61 was originally designed with mechanical preinfusion because of the instant-on nature of rotary pumps. (course I could be making that part up!)

Ok, I have to show my ignorance. What is preinfusion? Is it a good thing, and if so, does the E61 group head on a Vibiemme Super HX with a rotary pump provide a mechanical preinfusion?

To acquire the basic knowledge of espresso, review the site's Recommended Reading mentioned in the FAQs and Favorites Digest. A quick search espresso: what is preinfusion? yielded good results, including Mark's espresso glossary.

Ah, thank you HB. It turns out it's pretty hard to avoid getting lured inextricably deep into the "Little maze of twisty passages, all different" or sometimes "all alike" once you start exploring those FAQs and Favorites Digest.
