It's simple really. Buy the Vario. Why? You will end up paying more if you buy one grinder now and then have to get a 'espresso' grinder. With this grinder you are essentially done with ever having to buy another grinder(unless you read these forums ALOT and get upgraditis or the grinder breaks).

I have only had my Vario for a few weeks now and am using it in place of my Mazzer major! If you are not familiar with the Mazzer Major it is $1000 bought new. I will say I have NOT used my Vario for drip/press but wouldn't hesitate due to the reviews posted on this site. The timed dose is so nice to have I don't even want to mess with the Major anymore.
