Old Pasquini Livietta or Rancilio Silvia

Postby minkchen on Fri Apr 03, 2009 1:22 pm

So I came across an old pasquini that I purchased and I need some advice. It is in working condition but there are some minor issues. Like the water reservoir is cracked and will need to be replaced eventually. There is rust in places but it's not bad overall. It's in really good condition. The pump and boiler seem to be fine and it pulls a shot without issue. Is it worth repairing though? The water tank is hard to come by and I think will be expensive. Should I just save the money and get a new silvia? I am using a Gaggia Coffee now and I think it is great with the exception of the steam wand. Thanks in advance for any advice you can lend.

You may want to read Advice needed: Pasquini Livietta T2 or Rancilio Silvia w/PID? and answer Jason's questions:

zin1953 wrote:I would love to be able to, "Get the _______," but my first question is: why these two machines? What brought you to these two?

More importantly:
  1. What sorts of drinks will you be making? how many at a time? how many a day?
  2. What is your budget for the machine? what's your overall budget including the grinder, and have you already bought the grinder?
  3. How much experience do you already have? (I know you are "dipping [your] toes," but have you used any espresso equipment before?)
I'm not trying to talk you out of either of these machines, necessarily. On the other hand, it's good to make sure these machines will suite your needs as well as your budget.

Cheers,
Jason

I'm not sure what vintage your machine is but I have a couple of the Liviettas that were made by Olympia and they are top notch machines. I just got a new gasket set from Switzerland and I have found parts for them from Pasquini in Los Angeles -give them a call.
