Nuova Simonelli Musica

Postby scoffee on Tue Jan 25, 2011 11:51 pm

Hi,

I am looking to get into the home espresso machine market. Having trouble locating any reviews/info on the Nouva Simonelli Musica. My local sales guy tells me it will be the only machine I buy. Can anyone give me some details as to the quality of this machine?

The more info you can provide the better, remembering I am a newbie!

Thanks,

Steve

Some that i've talked to in the business don't speak very highly of it. No personal experience with it, but do know that it looks pretty when it is lighted up. Was told that it is very similar to the Oscar.

I questioned the Musica's "electronic" pre-infusion in this thread a while back, but didn't get an answer. One owner (mrdodge) did post his initial impressions on page 5. You might reach out to him.

Edit: Also, I thought Chris' Coffee was selling them, but he's not now, so that might tell you something.

Don't know anything specfic about this machine but it has not been around very long. On the other hand there are any number of machines out there with long track records and many dedicated owners.

1st time posting, long time reader :)

I was considering the Musica also... here's sharing my limited understanding.

The internal parts are similar (not 100% identical for some) to the Oscar - like the boiler & heating elements. Oscar & Musica share same part # for some. In many ways, Musica feels like a super Oscar. Here's the diff..

Musica has (what Oscar doesn't)... arrange based on what i like.

• Volumetric/Programmable Espresso Dosing
• Ergonomic Pull (long) & Push (quick) steaming lever, visually same as Appia & Aurelia.
• Good visibility of group & extraction
• Visual styling
• Programmable Hot Water spout
• Boiler with pressure gauge
• Musica has a vacuum-breaker valve
• 3 liter water tank
• Stainless Steel
• 2 strips of LED for fancier Lux version

Are the extra features worth it? That's a personal thingy.

Is it good value compare to say.. the up & coming redesign Vibiemme Domobar... some of my buddies think not.

Same as Oscar
• HX & similar Boiler
• Sirai Pressurestat
• Boiler water auto-refill
• Boiler over pressure relief valve & thermal reset switch.
• Commercial grade group - marine brass chrome plated
• 1200w
• 58 mm PF

hope that helps :)

Hi,

Thanks to those who replied.

Judging by the number views and replies, think I will assume that this is maybe not the machine to get.

Appreciate the advice.

Two important differences here, as I'm restoring an Oscar and learning a lot about their machines:

- It seems Musica has an adjustable OPV. Oscar hasn't.
- Musica has two restrictors, 3.2mm at hot inlet, 3mm at cold outlet, and it seems it gives 93C shots with the boiler around 1.3 bar.

And one comment about power: I got more than 1500W with 127V, I think the heater is 10 Ohm.

Márcio.
