Non-pressurized portafilter for Saeco Aroma

Postby dawnpatrol on Thu Oct 06, 2011 9:30 pm

I've looked everywhere for a Non-pressurized portafilter for the Saeco Aroma. Sold out everywhere. Any suggestions? Will another brand work? I've already done the at home fix to my pressurized portafilter but would like to get the real thing if possible.

Cheers,

Hi Dax,

You probably aren't getting any reply because almost everyone active on this site would not consider the Saeco Aroma to be sufficiently capable starter equipment, so even "upgrading" to a non-pressurized portafilter won't help much when you don't have sufficient temperature control or a brew group with much mass. Even if you could add computer controls, by the time you've made that expenditure it's better to get a different starter machine. I was in your position less than two years ago. You may find these two early threads of mine revealing (and they were humbling to me):

A newbie's tale, non-pressurized portafilter? Soy foaming?

For low budget is Saeco Magic cappuccino Plus much different than Silvia?

The good news is if you really want good espresso and are willing to learn, you can pick up used gear at a reasonable price. There are even reasonable low-cost options for new equipment, but they'll all cost more than a Saeco Aroma. If still interested, read the Buying Advice section to learn more.

I assume you mean Depressurizing the Saeco pressurized portafilter. If so, I would expect the DIY and OEM "depressurized" portafilters to perform identically.

Which proves that you won't win a HB popularity contest or save a lot of money by asking here. But it does not prove that you can't make great espresso with a cheap Saeco. As noted on this thread:

Depressurizing the Saeco pressurized portafilter

it is actually high brew temperature and bad baristas that are largely responsible for this (far-too-often-repeated) misconception.

Try:

It helps to use "quotes" when you are searching for specific items.

Fortunately, although popular opinion is often confused with fact, the proof is, as we say, in the pudding:
