New Cafelat Splat! Tamping Mat

Postby JmanEspresso on Wed Feb 10, 2010 3:07 am

I just saw this on one of the site banners. Being the winner of the Cafelat prize in the HBwishlist, I can vouch for the quality, and sheer awesomeness of the Cafelat Products. Read: I love them. Every product I LOVE using, and a bunch of the products are ingenious. The Tamper Hangers, for one. The Demi's are the first truly great espresso cups, with a usable handle. Cafelat products are very great products in my book.

This new SPLAT! tamping mat is just too cool! I MUST have one.. Can't wait to get one, hope Visions is/will be carrying it.

I got the "normal" Cafelat tamping mat for Xmas to replace my Golfweek mouse pad that served the purpose previously and it is indeed a fine product. I particularly like the raised edge that allows very simple leveling of a naked portafilter for a nice vertical tamp.

This new blob/splat mat style I can do without. It just doesn't fit the clean line neat aesthtics I'm going for on my espresso bar. To each his/her own. I hope they sell well as the whole Cafelat line looks to be high quality.

Honestly?

I think it looks awesome. For some reason, I just think its so cool. I like stuff that is sorta, out of the box, if you will. Of course, a simple few dollar piece of rubber will do the job the same, but, for me.. a products functionality, is just as much of a factor as how cool it looks. If it doesnt look cool, or stand out in some way... Probably not something Im going to say "OH! Must... Own... Now... !" about.

But.. Ive already got three tamping mats, and two tamping stands... Not sure if I need another tamping surface :P

And Geoff brings up something interesting. Everyone has a different aesthetic they're going for in the setup.. Why wouldnt they? If I had to put a description to how my bar is going to look, Id say "Overzealous, but with a touch of class" ....hehehe.
