Need help to ID older Vibiemme HX

Postby jarviscochrane on Mon Jan 04, 2010 6:46 pm

This is my first post although i've been lurking here for months. I'm in need of some expert help to identify the machine in this pic. Any help with a model name/number that I could further research or even better some 1st hand experience would be appreciated. It looks similar to a Vibiemme Levetta but with rocker switches on the top panel. Is this a less common / older Vibiemme HX or possibly a different brand E61/HX altogether that has acquired a Vibiemme decal along the way? The facets on the E61 group are throwing me off as well... I know I've seen this somewhere but can't recall on what machine.

Any help to point me to additional info before visiting the seller for some test shots is much appreciated.

My current set up is a Compak K6 / Silvia and i'm looking for a used E61/HX when I stumbled across this.

Edit: I've just noticed the switch on the top left is actually 2 switches - steam and brew? Indicating that this is not an HX machine at all?

I don't see a hot water tap, so my guess would be that it's a single boiler machine like Alexia or Zaffiro. The extra switches for brew and steam (?) would seem to support this theory. But I'm sure someone else will ring in with a more definitive answer.

Does not look like a Vibiemme at all. Never seen this model before and I service Vibiemme for more than 20 years.
The steam valve and steam wand are not Vibiemme. So is the knob and the portafilter.
Is the VBM logo on top of the group head and in the portafilter? I do not think so.
The group is definitely NOT Vibiemme. See the top on this picture.

As far as I can see, the only real Vibiemme part is the name plate.

Sorry.

Look at the group, the top has a double hex. Vibiemme has a single.
100% not a Vibiemme.

Yeah you might be right.

Another thing I notice, is that the steam knob, is not the classic Vibiemme "diamond" shape.

The Logo is MUCH bigger then the logo's on current-ish Vibiemme Domobars(SB/DU's)

Idk.. It could be an OLDER Vibiemme Domobar...But I couldn't find one picture like it.

But.. since you're looking for an HX.. regardless of who makes this machine.. its not what you want.

Thanks everyone for your replies - much appreciated. Consensus seems to be that this is in fact an odd duck an is not in fact an HX, thus not what i'm looking for.

Stefano - have you had any first hand experience with this model to give an opinion? Would you happen to have any specs or documentation?

I repaired couple of them through out the years
they are good machine for what they are ( single stage boiler)
you have the vbm original E-61 group
full size portafilter
ulka pump
bulb thermostat
etc etc
what I don't remember is what the steam valve parts are ( I know they are different then the full ex machines)
but like mention above when I repaired them I did a complete rebuild on the last one so I would know If I didn't have the parts around

regarding
if anything I MIGHT have a user manual which as any other user manual is pretty useless

Thanks Stefano... but Jman and Frank's comments about the double hex and star knobs got me googling...

After getting Vibiemme and HX out of my head, and with Beezer's Zaffiro suggestion... I was thinking Isomac but the steam wand is not quite right - notice the articulating arm shown in the original pic where it is fixed on the isomac's. Onto Alexia... close but no cigar.

Now i'm thinking Quickmill Eliane, which was further validated by the portafilter handle/spout. (I realize the E61 could take many pf's and this one is not necessarily the OEM one, but a good sign none the less).

Since a previous owner has clearly modified the drip tray and/or added the VBM nameplate, it is not impossible that the rocker switches are non-stock as well. Has anyone seen a Eliane with a top plate like this?

Either way i'm going to have a look in person and see if internal inspection and comparison to pics in The Bench post "Buyer's Guide to the Quick Mill Alexia" can confirm Quickmill suspicions assuming that the Eliane and Alexia are internally similar.

If so I may end up with an Eliane... which i'm sure will lead to a PID project. Possibly the Alexia PID kit that Chris' currently offers?
