Milk steamer alternatives?

Postby jedovaty on Wed Nov 09, 2011 11:27 pm

Are there alternatives to the bellman stovetop steamer?

I have one, but it takes a good 90-120s to steam about 5oz milk, and I'm constantly amazed at how quickly "real" espresso machines with steam wands steam milk. Unfortunately, I don't have room for a full espresso machine.

Would modifying the steam wand on the bellman improve speed? That's ultimately what I'm after, ideally under a minute.

Thanks for your time.

Have you tried adjusting the amount of water in the bellman? I've seen others write that it's a great steamer, as long as the water level is correct. Given a suitable heat source and enough room for steam, I can't see why the Bellman shouldn't steam well. But I have never tried it myself...

If it still doesn't work for you, how about a small, dedicated frother like the Nemox Milki?

Hey Jed!
Some said that steamed milk will taste sweeter and are after the sweetness in steamed milk. If you're not looking after the sweetness and just want the milk frothed, there's one quick way to froth the milk. Here's one using French press & microwave that I saw on youtube. Looks great even though he's just using a pod machine. I personally haven't tried that yet. My last French press broke on me.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies :)

No, I'm looking for milk steamers. My bellman steams milk fine on the gas stove, and I can even do basic latte art with it, however, it just takes forever to steam - this is normal based on what I've seen. Just looking for something faster!
