I stand corrected.

Is this really true? I almost never see doserless espresso grinders in cafes.

Jacob, I'm still on my journey of discovery so my opinions are subject to change over time. I went to dosered when I decided the Robur was unable to single dose without the mixing action of the doser and also there was the belief that one needed three hands to operate the doserless properly. The three handed requirement has been debunked when Dick Green suggested placing the scale on the fork and resting the basket on the scale. That freed up the third hand and solved that problem.

I'm still of the belief that my grinder came with defective burrs. Either that or I ruined them. I still cannot get a quality pour from the Robur no matter how I try, and it shouldn't be this difficult. I'm not a complete clutz. WDT, nutating, shaking blah blah, no matter what I do, I never get a clean looking pour and my extractions are always sour. I tried to find the EM distribution from my Robur way back when Jim did the analysis but I couldn't find the thread with the actual results of each contributer to see if my issues could've existed back then. New burrs are on the way.

Then there's the possibility that removing the static screen could negatively affect the grinder's ability. I doubt it but haven't replaced it to test. If I have to run the grinder with the screen to get good results, I will consider selling it. That would be too wasteful and complicated.

So to answer your question, I'm not sure where I'll end up but for right now, running the grinder doserless is much easier, cleaner and less wasteful. As for whether it's better has yet to be determined.

Stay tuned!!
