Mazzer Mini or Super Jolly

Postby davidc9057 on Mon Dec 27, 2010 7:46 am

Hi everyone I'm new to this forum. Great information here for a person jumping in to the world of coffee. I've been home roasting a couple years and took the next step to espresso. My question is what are the reasons one might buy a Mazzer Mini over a Super Jolly or vice versa. Size doesn't matter here :) . I have recently purchased a Vetrano so which might pair better? There is only me as far as espresso or cappa goes. My wife is not yet a convert. Thanks for your sage advice to all who answer!

David, I don't have either grinder, but you won't find many here that would recommend the Mini over the Super Jolly. SJ is top notch, unless you're going to go up the grinder food chain.

Caveat being the Mazzer Mini E has 64 mm burrs like the SJ, and is not the same animal as the regular Mini. It compares favorably to the SJ, but is more expensive than the mini or SJ.

My $.02 FWIW, I'd say get the SJ and don't look back. There's one in my future once I get the counter space.

Bigger is better :) go with the Super Jolly. I have the next step up, Major, and love it! The bigger burrs of the SJ will be nicer than the Mini. If you can find one of these used then you can save a lot of money.

Thanks for the replies. I figured as much. At only $50 more for the SJ Chris is going to send me one.
Thanks again!

I bought the Mini about 7 years ago and it was a vast improvement over the garbage I had. If I knew then what I know now, the extra $ would have been spent on the SJ.
