I know what empirical means and it can be interpreted in different ways. Your post was ambiguous. It would have been more concise if you stated that you visually inspected them. I wasn't sure if you just compared the coffee grounds or what. Thanks for clearing that up.

Can you specify how the burrs are different or possibly post a picture of the 2 different burrs?

These pictures beg for more questions.

Was Mahlkonig involved in sponsorship of the event, and Licata didn't have much choice but to take on these two grinders or he choose them because he believed in these products?

Is it possible that he had ProM there only because he didn't want to fiddle with K30 (purged, dial in new grind size, etc.) when he was in for non-espresso drinks?

Do not get me wrong - 90% what I own is of German origins, thus there is no bias involved in my questions, but I simply trying to understand why we would need two grinders, unless we are spoilt rotten. Ditting for their 805 machines seems to be offering burrs for FP and then different for Turkish coffee, but I am not certain that there are too many coffee consumers around, who would be able to tell the difference, even as I suspect there might be some.

You have shown us (Thank you) your ProM standing next to beautiful GS 3, and I suspect you use ProM for espresso grind as well. How about inverse situation? Could you use K30 for Turkish coffee and tell the difference in taste?

I'll purchase the Mahlkonig K30 but am still unsure about which non-espresso grinder to get. The Baratza vario is rated well but it's build quality comes into question (a lot of plastic for a $500 grinder). I just don't know if the pro m is worth the extra $900 over the vario. Is it that much better in terms of its build and grind quality for its premium or is it too early to tell?

If I may - did you try K30 for non-espresso drinks yet, or is it too much of hassle to re-dial from one position to the other one? I have seen on one Canadian site a K30 with small hopper, but it is not being advertised on Mahlkonig website. Can you comment about hopper size availibility?
