Look at it this way, Anthony. At a minimum, the Baratza Vario ($429 MSRP*) is most often compared to the Mazzer Super Jolly ($939 MSRP*). It's also been compared to a Mazzer Major ($1,700 MSRP*). Buying a Baratza Vario may mean never having to upgrade . . . or it may not.

Keep in mind that many of us here are crazy -- we have true commercial equipment in our homes! This doesn't mean you won't want to upgrade; but you probably won't need to upgrade.

Cheers,
Jason

Another way of looking at it, independent of price comparisons: One of the other 3 M's are more likely to be the limiting factor.

That is great news that I am not going to have to upgrade my grinder anytime in the near future. I would love to have true commerical versions of the grinder and espresso machines but right now I am not at that point unlike most of you.

What kind of grinder do you have now?

What I should have said is that when I buy the Vario and become a expert espresso maker I don't want to have to upgrade to something better within a couple years of owning it because I am not getting the results that a top notch grinder can get.

Right now I own a Cuisinart grinder which I come to find out is a POS.

Maybe this has been touched on before but I don't have a lot of time today to go through all the posts on this thread.

What is the difference btw the Mazzer Mini and the Baratza Vario? Are these two machines very similar or are the completely different machines? Thanks to you all and have a great day!!

You are asking the right questions, but please make an effort to search out previous discussions: Mazzer Mini or Baratza Vario? and In Defense of the Mazzer Mini are two good examples. Thanks.

Hey Aspen, first off... woot SD. Sorry, almost no one I have ever seen is from South Dakota besides me. I didn't have time to read all 4 pages but I read the first page and tried to glean the rest. First, i own two machines a Rocket Cellini and a Jura Ena. I pretty much exclusively use my Rocket and I bought the Ena for my GF for Christmas. It was a refurb and I have had no problems with it (you just have to use a very dry and medium roast). Comparing a Super and a semi like and E61 is like comparing a Honda Civic to a Ferrari, they are not comparable.

That being said if you want the simplicity of a super the Jura is ok but once you taste great espresso you will not be that impressed with it anymore. My GF loves and uses her Jura everyday though, she isn't a perfectionist like me and drinks only Lattes.

Gotta run, will post again later. Just wanted to say hi and a couple things.

1. What do you drink?
2. How much do you care?
