La Pavoni PUB vs. Quickmill Anita

Postby Jeff on Fri Jul 08, 2011 1:17 pm

I've got a line on an older La Pavoni Pub single-group with an external pump. I've got an Anita (E-61, HX) at this point.

Past the convenience of plumb-in, would the PUB provide any advantages over the Anita? Is the stability, forgiveness, or other aspect of the PUB's brewing system any better than an E-61 with an Erics' temp monitor? For that matter, is it any worse?

(I don't need NSF or other certifications).

The unit appears to be similar to the one in Thinking about La Pavoni PUB on eBay - need help / advice

According to the seller, "The pump works fine, but the base of it has some rust on it. It is from the 80's and was used on and off for 20 some years but hasn't had a lot of use lately (last two years or so)."

I can't speak for the Anita but my Pub was able to put out some really fine shots. It was a mid 80's model and it was built rather well. I ran it at 1 bar and never had any issues once I got the kinks worked out. I don't think you'll be disappointed. I have since sold my Pub after finding a a super clean CMA lever for a bargain price.
Enjoy

Well, shoot -- looked like a fun project until I called a well-respected parts supplier (with the intent of pricing a replacement pump) who basically said, "Don't do it. Parts are getting far too spotty and expensive for La Pavoni."

(I don't know if this warning applies to the home lever units.)

There's not much in terms of parts that you can't get at Cafe Parts or Espresso Parts.

I'd love to find a mid eighties single group Pub to replace my 2 group :) I love this thing, but it's too damn big!
