Is San Marco a good make?

Postby Fabien lamour on Fri Sep 16, 2011 4:46 pm

Just bought a used one group San Marco (110v) in seemingly excellent condition . I'm just
wondering, how good are these machines? The seller told me
they are among the better makes. Any input would be appreciated.

They are certainly a venerable make. Caffe Trieste used to have San Marcos in their North Beach shop, and their coffee was very good.

Glad to hear it. I paid alot of money for it,
I'd hate to think I was cheated.Any idea where , on the
totem pole of espresso machines, it ranks?

Hard to tell. We only have the make, not a model, year, condition, etc.

If you are happy with what you paid for it, who cares what anyone else thinks?

It's not that I'm looking for people's approval , I just want to know how good a machine I have. The model
is 85-16 m practical. Whether ir not I'm happy
with it remains to be seen, because I have yet to set it
up. It looks to be well built , but I'm not the most
technical of people. As for the condition, it looks almost new.

Commercial espresso machines do not line up like a totem pole. If your San Marco is in good condition internally it should be a solid performer. I believe that your model has a lever control for the steam; if so this is the main difference between your machine and other major commercial HX machines. (I like the lever control.)

Doug from Orphanespresso likes their build quality and thought that went into designing the San Marco Model 80.

Very impressive , such attention to detail . I hope my no. 85
was also built to such exacting standards. Sadly, nowadays many companies simply coast on their reputation , and pay less attention to maintaining high standards of workmanship.
