Is Compak K6 an upgrade from a Faema MPN

Postby penrod on Fri Aug 27, 2010 1:10 am

My SO indulges my coffee habit, but her biggest complaint is that the Faema is rather noisy between the doser thwacking and motor and all. This makes me think I have justification for a new grinder, if it is quieter, and hopefully a better grinder. So I have been watching craiglist and ebay, but not yet been inspired to pick anything up. I have seen a few compaks, but other than the k10 I haven't found much about them.

Can I assume the k10 doser and the k6 doser are identical?

I home roast and tend to single dose. I am open to other grinder suggestions too.

No. There are two versions of both the K10 and K6. I assume you want the same doser as on the K10 WBC (which now appears to be redubbed the K10 Pro Barista), which is available on the K6 Pro Barista. The "regular" K6 and K10 Conic has a different doser with non-removable tamper up front.

My impression from reading about it, but not using it, is that the K6 is roughly akin to the Super Jolly. If so it would be a great grinder (but again I have only read about it and seen it, but never used it). That also doesn't help with your question about the doser. The doser doesn't usually change much if at all as you go up in the grinder lines (such as Mazzer or Macap), but I don't know about Compak.
