Mitch,
Glad to hear you're having fun so far. I've been using a Robur E for the past year and a half and the tool I find the most helpful in reducing waste and cleaning the grind chamber / chute, is compressed air. It is a little messy and takes a bit of figuring out ones technique so as not to blast grinds all over the counter but it dislodges most of the trapped coffee. My waste factor has dropped considerably though I still pulse through 5-10 grams out of respect for the fresh coffee coming through. Enjoy the beast.

I like the doser-less funnel and not having to thwack-thwack the doser which is why I converted my Mini to doserless. So for now, it seems I will just use the manual button. This grinder is so fast that I can't see how there isn't more waste in the doser version due to over-grinding. It only takes about 3.5 seconds to pile up my LM ridged basket.

I don't get it. You bought one of the most expensive espresso grinders ever made, and you're not going to use the 0.1s timed dosing feature that gets you consistent doses every shot? Instead you're going to dose by eye at almost 5g/s without the ability to hold excess in the doser, knowing 0.5g makes a difference?

I'm sure Mitch will come to use the Robur up to it's dosing potential over time. If not no big deal. The beauty of this grinder no matter how it's used* is the consistent quality of the grind.

As it turns out, I was wrong. The doser is so accurate that I did end up adopting it. I was intimidated by by setting it and all the waste but it turns out, it is very easy to set and now I get extremely consistent dosing!

Every day is a new adventure!

Here's a quick video. I know I'm not quite there yet but I'm working out the technique!!

Its good isn't it. Now that you have the grind roughly right, any minor adjustments can be made by a very small adjustment on the timer.

This is in line with my experience on a dosered Robur. To change coffee, I empty my mini-hopper and scoop out beans in the grinder throat with a spoon. After grinding the remaining beans, blowing some air through, and brushing out the chute, I've measured the grinds retention at about 9g, roughly half a double dose. (Most of the time I simply dump in new beans and suffer through one "melange" shot. Oh the horror. :) ) IMHO reports of grinds retention are greatly exaggerated - at least for the dosered model.

Note:
To brush out the chute effectively, you must remove the black plastic auto-dosing device with metal flap. Otherwise access to the (large) chute is significantly impaired.
