How can I determine the value of used espresso machine?

Postby fleabitpnutmonkey on Mon Dec 05, 2011 4:53 pm

Not sure where to post this, but I'm trying to figure out how I should price my Anita. I understand that this site doesn't allow posts for selling equipment, so please don't buy my machine haha!

I purchased my machine in March of 2010, used it for 1 year, and sent it in to Chris Coffee in March 2011 for servicing once I realized I was woefully unprepared to deal with the mechanical aspects of such a machine. Turns out, a sensor was slightly out of place (something I could have dealt with myself if I wasn't so mechanically-challenged). They tweaked it for me, gave it a thorough once over, declared it to be in perfect condition, and shipped it back to me...all free of charge! Awesome guys! I have since put the machine in storage and have not even opened the box in which CC shipped it back.

Could any of you help me determine a fair price for such a machine? I have come to realize that this is mechanically too much for me to handle and would like to sell it off :( Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have for me!

Go to CG, search the for sale forum for old posts, and sell it there.

From How to choose an espresso machine and grinder at the "right" price:

HB wrote:Resale value of used espresso machine is less reliable since their value is tightly coupled to popularity. If you pick a popular model, can sell for the same 50% to 70% of current retail price if kept in top condition, should you decide to upgrade someday.

If a used model still in production with average popularity were in pristine condition but recent models have seen improvements in feature/reliability in the interim, the best price it can fetch is around 50% of today's model's full retail price. The price falls precipitously if the question of needed repairs enters into the equation, i.e., a few hundred at best.

The Quickmill Anita is popular, so it should sell easily. Bob_McBob's suggestion is a good one, i.e., look on CoffeeGeek's forums for previous sales.
