Help identify used Elektra espresso machine?

Postby aindfan on Mon Oct 18, 2010 3:15 pm

Hi everyone,

I've been in a non-posting state for some time and I still owe the lever forum a good Ponte Vecchio maintenance guide (I even have the photos lined up!). At this point, I have a quick question that I hope you can answer. I think I'm facing a good price on an unidentified Elektra machine, supposedly built in 1988, with dimensions "23" wide x 18" deep x 17" high" according to the ad.

The only photos of the machine are below. It was stored, according to the seller (whom I spoke with), in a living room (leading me to believe that pipes should not be ruptured). He says that the pump is internal.

So as I said, does anyone know what machine this is, and whether it is worth working on? Is there any chance parts are available for it? (For starters, the group looks the same as the some of the Elektra Sixties T1/A3 groups that I've seen in pictures around here.)

Thanks in advance!

p.s. Any other tips, such as "Don't even think about letting this one slip away" or "Don't waste your time on this garbage" are also appreciated. Thanks again!

Update: for the price, I decided that it had to be worth a look (despite the one hour drive). I'll be heading over there this evening, but in the mean time, any advice for looking over a used machine (without the opportunity to hook it up)? I suppose dealbreakers include a 220V plug, obvious cracks (in the boiler/HX - not that I'll really be able to see them), and excessive rust. I will also be reading through some of the threads on picking up used equipment here. I have already been looking through some Elektra restoration threads.

Thanks!

Update 2: I bought the machine - $100. As I was able to successfully carry it up the stairs, it will now be the subject of a restoration thread here.
