Height of Vibiemme Domobar Junior DB and misc. questions

Postby robca on Sat Oct 16, 2010 2:03 am

Long time lurker, first time poster with lots of questions :D

It's time to update my La Pavoni Professional (which I love for single shots, not so much for parties and lattes) with something dramatically better. For size reasons I have been looking at the Domobar Junior, and I like the idea of a double boiler better than a HX machine (and, yes, I read all the posts, don't mean to reopen the question). I plan to add a PID to the brew boiler sooner or later, btw

I hope a Junior owner can help me out here

I'd like to confirm the Junior size, as I found conflicting information on different websites (re: height vs depth)

Here's what I found:

225mm (9") W x 350mm (14") H x 400mm (16") D
225mm (9") W x 350mm (14") D x 400mm (16") H

Can someone with a Junior please measure (mm or inches is the same) the height to the top of the machine, handles excluded, and the depth, once again handle excluded? Is it "deeper" or "taller"?

Assuming I'm in a hurry and flush the E61 multiple times to bring the thermal mass to temperature, what's the minimum time to pull an espresso? I know that it would benefit from a long heating time to bring everything to temperature, but with a relatively small brew boiler and a powerful heater, it should be possible to speed things along by flushing more water...

Does it come with a ridgeless double basket, or should I order a ridgeless basket right away?

Thanks in advance for the help, Rob

P.S. any other suggestion for a small size DB espresso machine? I looked at Izzo Duetto and Brewtus, but not only those are more expensive, they are also bigger and (to my taste) not as good looking as the Junior

Mine measured 9" width, 16" height and 16" depth. The lid handles and the tray
handle are about 1/2" or less (sorry I measured total height/depth) so subtract
from the 16".

I much prefer the ridgeless baskets because they slide on/off easily. To remove
the VBM ridged baskets from the VBM PF requires prying w/ something other than
my thumb.
