Hario Skerton/Skelton vs. Hario Slim Mini hand grinder - Page 2

Postby jayjp04 on Wed Jan 13, 2010 6:44 pm

Thanks for the help everyone! I ordered the ceramic slim (sweet....my first "real" grinder). The shipping was over 9 bucks from PT's coffee (yikes....I am a student!) but it arrived in just 3 days and in perfect shape. I have pumped out a couple shots on the handpresso, and although not dialed in perfect yet, the grind is fine, sticky, and makes a world of difference in the finished product! The espresso is poured in about 15 seconds instead of 5-10, and tastes much better. I am ready for a new machine and grinder....it will just have to wait about 2 years! My dad just got the saeco vienna plus (superauto)...so I excited to try that out when I go home to visit in march...

Really? I can choke any machine in the world with a whirly-blade grinder. Would you say that would be adequate too?

Both hand grinders have extensive plastic. I have used the Mini and Skerton about once per week for past year.

Hi, Henry and everyone.

How do you compare the grind quality of both grinders at the range for espresso? I got a Hario Slim, and I'm having a hard time to use it with my Classic (just testing). The OPV is set at 9 bar, and when I dial the Slim so I can get some flow, the grinder is not so consistent, and I got a bad extraction. It seems that when I go finer I have a better grind, but than the machine chokes.

When I look the inner burr movement, I see it is not so centered as I think it should be... I wonder if the Skerton or Kyocera is better...

Thanks!

Márcio.
