Grinder upgrade from Rancilio Rocky for ~$500

Postby caffe1nated on Sat Aug 06, 2011 10:49 pm

Is it worth another $100 for a mazzer? Or in general what would be a good upgrade from rocky? I want a doser..

I haven't priced the Rancilio Rocky and Mazzer Mini lately, but the best price I found in 2 minutes of searching was $375 and $579 respectively, a price difference of more than $200. As noted in Worthy grinder upgrade from Rancilio Rocky? and other threads, I and others recommend the Baratza Vario ($449) over the Rancilio Rocky.

If you don't mind a larger grinder, the Quamar M80 on sale at 1st-line for $449 is a steal. You can read about it under Ceado, Mazzer, Quamar - Commercial Espresso Grinders.

The Quamar looks great! The M80 or M80e though? Is the e model just for convenience/easeOfUse/easyCleaning?

Some prefer doserless grinders, some prefer doser grinders. Threads like Pros and cons of doser vs. doserless grinder? and The debate continues are full of opinions. Searching on "doser / doserless" by title will yield even more food for thought.
