Grinder Advice - Compak E5 vs Fiorenzato F4 vs Eureka Atom - Page 3

Compared to other electrical grinders the Eureka Atom has very little grounds retention. It only has two smaller issues that are both finally fixable. The first is popcorning of the beans inside the hopper when not enough filled. The simple solution is to buy the smaller hopper of the zenith. The other issue of the Atom is the clogging of the chute if you grind too fine (as seen in the SCG reviews). Eureka finally released a metal flapper as a replacement part that doesn't bend as easily and should fix the jamming.

Nice photos ash4889! and @cheez good to hear that Zenith's smaller hopper works - but is there any other accessories that facilitate single dosing?

Great thread. I just ordered a eureka atom grinder and it should be here within the next two days. How does the Zenith short hopper solve the problem? Thanks for your help

Good to finally see some discussion of the Compak E5! I have one and like it quite a bit: it's fast, powerful, and configurable (if a bit loud). That said, I can't help but spill a bit each time, which is annoying, and I do sometimes wonder if it grinds consistently enough for my Linea Mini. (I dream of a Mahlkonig on a regular basis.)

I want to know are you saying you don't like it?

I thought about the Eureka for a short time but it like the Mahlkonig is just too large for my countertop, that's one of my primary reasons for going with a Compak because of its size and quality. I had such a good experience with speaking with Compaks North American representative, unlike the people from Ceado who were rude and couldn't care less to even answer a question.
I went with a polished aluminum one this time instead of the flat black, I think it was just compliment my Olympia much better looking forward to getting it tomorrow.

Very nice, congrats! I wish they'd had the aluminum model when I bought mine. Would've matched my Linea Mini quite well.ash4889 wrote:I went with a polished aluminum one this time instead of the flat black, I think it was just compliment my Olympia much better looking forward to getting it tomorrow.

The sides of the hopper are steeper and make for a better feeding of the beans. Ask your vendor to ship the new flapper if possible.Deepseaskydiver wrote:Great thread. So the new Atom arrived this afternoon and I've barely had time to play with it. I'll post more once I've been able to properly dial it in and pull some decent shots. A few quick notes though.
I have to second what Cheez and Seb had to say. Grinder is solid and maybe a bit larger than I expected, but if fits under my cabinets (17.5 inches high), so not a big deal. It's also better looking than I expected and the buttons and screen seem of higher quality than I expected.
This grinder is QUIET! Seriously, much quieter than my smart grinder. I will try to post a video of the two for comparison this weekend.
Like Seb said, on the coarse side, there is a lot of static. It wasn't so bad at finer settings. It also didn't take much for me to clog the chute. Problem? Yes. I will try to get the metal flapper that was mentioned above (thanks for the tip!). However, it was VERY easy to remove the top (doesn't change your grind settings) and peel back the rubber top to the chute and use a chopstick to unclog. Very nice feature, hope it don't have to use it often though.
I also did notice the popcorning, but I don't single dose, so no big deal for me.
Anyway, very please so far after a couple shots pulled. Again, I'll post more after a weekend worth of use!
Thanks everyone for the insights, HB rocks!
