Glass One Way Valve Container and 6oz Pitcher

Postby chang00 on Fri Jul 03, 2009 5:08 pm

Recently found these at Korean town in Los Angeles. The Lock&Lock Breathing Glass Canister is sized for 900ml, hopefully just right for one batch of Hottop roasting. It is fitted with a one-way valve and the cap is lined with a silicon gasket. It only costs $4.99.

The 200ml/6oz stainless steel pitcher is small enough for frothing milk without waste for a macchiato. It is also graduated inside with markings for 50/100/150/180ml. The background is the ubiquitous 12-oz pitcher for comparison. I only wish the 12-oz pitchers can come with these markings. Paid $3.99.

Anybody know of an on-line source for these "Lock&Lock Breathing Glass Canisters" here in the US? Doubt I'll be in Koreatown in LA (or anywhere else in LA) anytime soon & though googling "Lock&Lock Breathing Glass Canister" yields a set of various sizes of them from QVC in England, the google search yields nothing here in the States... (and searching the QVC site here in the states yields nothing either...)

I could not find an online source in US either. Called Lock&Lock in Irvine, California, and the company directed me to Korean town. For anyone interested, the place is called:

Kim's Homecenter
2940 W Olympic Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90006-2506
(213) 386-4882

It is not too far from Intelligentsia in Silverlake.

The container apparently is used to store kimchi.

Perhaps you can call Uwajimaya in Seattle or Beaverton. They seem to have a large selection of Asian items in the Pacific Northwest.

Thanks, Henry. My wife is Asian (Chinese) and we do frequently shop at Uwajimaya in Seattle & Redmond, as well as at a number of the other relatively large Asian markets in the Seattle area. However, I don't recall ever having seen these containers in any of their housewares sections. Will defiinitely keep looking for them though. Knowing they're used for kimchi and that you found them in a Korean Town market in LA helps - maybe one of the smaller mom & pop type Korean markets here in Seattle will have them. Will certainly keep looking. Thanks again. (Well, sometimes the "hunt" for something is as enjoyable as what comes later once found... )

Aren't Lock&Lock product pretty readily available down there? I know I have a bunch that were purchased from a Wal-Mart in the States. I've seen valved versions in various shapes and sizes.

I went by Kim's some months ago after reading this post here while searching for a better storage method and I have been incredibly happy with these canisters. I actually went back to buy more to give to friends. Great find.

Thanks for the link. Too bad, though, that they don't sell the smaller (200ml/6oz) size. That much bigger (1.2L) size is way to big for me...

For those that might be interested, Kim Homecenter no longer carries the 6oz SS pitcher. :(
