Gaggia Orione

Postby Bluedog2903 on Thu Mar 31, 2011 10:53 pm

In casting around for a good daily use machine (for home), I've been reading the threads on the old Gaggia Oriones. What is the overall impression of the espresso produced with these machines when they are restored to good working order? Are the excellent, good, mediocre or poor?

Many thanks

I have a D90 which is basically a later version of the Orione and is the last of the true Gaggia commercial levers with heads that have been in production, basically unchanged since 1948. My machine is 20 amp 4000w so there may be power constraints for some people. I have been using 2 legs on 15 amp and the machine is still ready in about an hour. I assume the two group Orione is the same. A single would be ideal.

A fantastic machine that gets to temperature quickly and produces a superlative coffee. Those magnificent heads are industria eye candy.

I would love an Orione (Tell) as well but I'm not allowed  .
