Fair price for used La Spaziale S1?

Postby joshd on Fri May 20, 2011 10:11 am

I have a possible line on a pretty used La Spaziale S1. I wanted to get some wisdom from you all on said possible purchase. They were asking $1000, but I think that is WAY too much for such a beat up looking machine. I countered to $500 and they said maybe. So would you look at the pictures and let me know what your thoughts would be. I would definitely verify function before purchasing. Thanks for any feed back you give. And I know that buying any used machine includes inherent risk.

I am very afraid of that one. Quite scary looking.

Looks pretty beat up. $1000 is about 10 times what I would give you for it. $500 is only 5 times what I would give you. For $100, it might be an interesting renovation project. But it has no historical/antique value and probably has lots of expensive electronics that could need replacing. I would forget it unless they gave it away. (Disclosure: I own a Vivaldi Mini that's about 3 years old and looks brand new. But of course I take care of it. I don't think my machine would look as rough as yours after 10 years).

I have a Vivaldi II that is now 4+ years old and looks pretty much new. This machine has been abused and I would worry about that. $500 seems like a lot to me given the unknowns and the certainty of needing a drip tray and presumably some additional parts.

I'm not sure what I would consider paying for it, but it would be substantially less than $500.

Good luck

Yeah, that is not worth more than $100. It could be taken down and you can sell off any of the working parts. That is about it.

^^^^ I'm assuming that badge means this is a commercial pull? Sounds like you made the right decision.
