Experience PID'ing a Saeco/Starbucks Barista?

Postby BB Huell on Sat Oct 09, 2010 1:49 pm

I am wondering if anyone has any experience PID'ing a Saeco/Starbucks Barista machine? I know Auber Instruments sell a retrofit PID kit for the Saeco/Starbucks Barista.

Would adding a PID help with shot consistency?

Thanks for the input.

[sarcasm] PID control is magical! Add one to a steam toy, and it will pull shots as good as a Synesso. With the Saeco, you'll get unparalleled god shots every time. [/sarcasm]

Seriously, PID controls can bring a machine up to its full potential; but no further. Full potential on a Saeco isn't all that great; the boiler is too small and the group too light and too primitive. Several Chinese manufacturers have put PID controls on machines with specifications similar to the Saeco; and they remain poorly performing machines.

Yeah, I am not surprised by the response. I guess I'll save my $150 and put it towards a better machine, hopefully in the not too distant future.

Thanks
