Elektra - should I make a move?

Postby Maskedman on Wed Feb 16, 2011 4:22 am

Hello all,

I currently own a 3 year old Andreja Premium and I'm very happy with it, but then I saw this in the local version of ebay:

Can somebody ID this machine for me, and will it be a step up from my current machine?

Thanks!

Manual version (which many prefer, but is now discontinued) of this machine.

I've not personally used one, but I wish I had.

Thanks Chris,

Would you prefer it over the Andreja Premium?

It comes with a matching grinder (Sixties brass?)

I can't speak from personal experience, but from its online 'reputation' I'd jump at it, if the price and condition are reasonable. Its got a really good review on here...

It's an Elektra A3 in disguise. I currently have my eye on an A3 or possibly a Duetto but still can't make my mind up? BUY IT.

Double the above. Buy it.

An iconic, discontinued machine that will be sought after for years to come and can only increase in value.

No more to be said.

These are not small machines. Be sure you have the space. That said, I'm very happy with my Elektra T1 (automatic version of A3) and I certainly think it was a step (or two) above my Anita.

That is the brass version of the A3. It carried a premium of several hundred over the stainless version. Down side, brass scratches easy and can be difficult to keep clean but as to the machines itself, my personal opinion, they are exceptional machines. I have no urge to upgrade it after several years of use. The model was discontinued the end of last year. They still produce the T1 which is that machine with a flow meter and dosing buttons. A few thing to keep in mind, it is big, it is heavy, it is plumbed in and out so you need a water line and a drain or at least a bucket for it to drain into, it takes at least an hour to heat, two hours are better, I never turn my machine off, it takes a dedicated 20 amp 110 circuit to run (unless it is the 220 version) and yes it really needs a dedicated 20 amp line unless you disconnect half the heater, did I mention it is big and heavy. If you have the resources for it and the machine is in good shape, it is an exceptional espresso machine. Keep in mind it is a commercial single group, not a prosumer machine. You are in the big league now.

Unless you have a 230Volt supply then it would need roughly 8.6 amps.
