Dear forum members, please help a poor wife in her hour of Christmas gift need :P
My husband, an espresso enthusiast, wants to get a couple of double walled cups for his espresso. He uses a Rancilio espresso machine and makes a double size shot (he uses this basket https://www.espressoparts.com/rancilio- ... ter-basket). Could you please recommend to me the right size (in ml) for the cups, or better yet direct me to a specific product or brand? It'll have to be sold on amazon.co.uk though, because I need shipping to Greece.

Thank you!

Think you want to add the type of machine, or height of the height that will fit as rancilio may have more than one and not all glasses may fit underneath your machine...

60ml is the right size for a double shot with no milk but 90ml is also an option which would allow for a macchiato to be made

Bodum was the first brand I got years ago, they withstood the dishwasher but smash to a pile of dust if they get dropped, now they have similar looking/designed cups in some of the the $1 or 1€ shops

I would warn you that my experience with these cups is that they work so well at insulating they make the drink unbearably hot

Bodum sells double-walled espresso cups:

They are very attractive, but as 4000ft noted, they retain heat so efficiently, that you must be careful not to burn your lips. If your husband wants attractive espresso cups for bottomless pours, the Illy Nude cups are beautiful and don't suffer from the heat problems of the double-walled ones:

I've been using double-walled cups for a few years and haven't had a problem with excessively hot drinks. But my wife has confirmed the fragility of the Bodum products in an admittedly unscientific way. I discovered Bormioli while browsing a local store one day, and so far they've resisted her best efforts to break them.

Amazon UK does have several Bormioli cups. Here's a link to that page:

Two rules for Bodum glassware (imho):

1. No metal utensils - ever
2. Hand wash immediately after use

I regularly use four large Bodum Bistro latte mugs for large lattes and hot chocolate with no issues.

Thank you all so much for your help!
Marcelnl the machine is a Rancilio Silvia. I think it's pretty high.
He was searching some time ago for thick walled cups, but didn't have any luck. He mentioned double walled the other day, in fact he wishlisted these http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00VNYOIIM/r ... GFLEXOBWV5 which are 120ml. Do you think there are too large?
I think i'll buy him double walled, and if he has any problem with the temperature, oh well, next time he'll know better :)

120 ml sounds like a lot, but preferences vary quite a bit and are also affected by the preferred drink. If he drinks regular doubles A 120 ml glass is a bit large, unless it has a round bottom like a cup and in that case it might be a good match but the width and depth ratio is important imo (taste goes mostly through the nose so a bit of surface are to put your schnozzle in goes a long way)
i have some Nespresso double walled shot glasses that don't fit under my faemina but they look nice even though the dimensions are not that good (too narrow). I also confess to be a Bormioli fan too, although I hardly use any double walled glass because of the heat issue...

(Kinda like the Bormioli pro wine glasses/crystal glasses a lot but broke the last one a couple of months ago and haven't found them)

Think you can't go wrong with the ones he wishlisted, but above all.... I admire your effort to register here and ask for advice!

I have the 3oz bodums and I love them. Perfect size for a double and even enough room for a machiatto.
