Demitasse cups in Vancouver

Postby UKGuru on Sun Apr 03, 2011 2:33 pm

Does anyone know where to purchase demitasse cups in Vancouver. I want to make Macchiatos at home with some latte art on top...So I think the shape of the 2oz+ cups should be flower shaped...Well that is what I was told.

I did go to 49th Parallel but could not justify paying $20+ for two cups.

Any pointers in Vancouver would be great..

Thanks

Thank you for your response. I have tried Espressotec, ECM and Bravo and they really do not have a good selection of espresso cups. If they did, they are sold out. Espressotec is a great place for supplies in general, but they are out of the flower shaped demi cups...

So my question to the Vancouverites is where else do you go for your espresso supplies?

Well, for what it's worth 10$ cups do tend to last longer than cheapo dollar market cups. I particularly like ACF cups. They are used in a number of coffee shops and hold up well to daily abuse, including the dishwasher.

You can get them online here in Canada. They have a 2.2 oz tulip cup in a couple of nice colors.

Try some of the kitchen retail shops such as Ming Wo. The espresso retailer ECM on 1st Ave at Boundary rd has a variety of cups as well. Most of my collection comes from cafe cups bought when traveling, my current favorite cup has a grumpy face on it, unfortunately you have to get either in NYC at Cafe Grumpy or here - http://www.cafegrumpy.com. Make the trip to Seattle great coffee to be had and more cups than you can imagine.

There is a big difference between the 'cheapies' and the $10 porcelain cups and saucers. You can even feel it.

Puddifoot http://www.puddifoot.com/ has some nice stuff. Among others, they carry the Revol line. They have even special ordered stuff for me in the past, although it takes a while to get it.

If price is the primary object, then you need to go to a mass market shop like Ikea, or perhaps Ming Wo or Motiv to buy stuff on sale. Otherwise, if you are buying stuff to keep for years, you can spend too much time trying to save money, and all that will happen is that you will be making the same purchase again in a couple of years.
