Coffee gear in Manhattan

Postby Carneiro on Fri Aug 13, 2010 1:21 pm

I'm gonna travel to Toronto and NY next Monday (11 days Toronto and 9 days NY) with my girlfriend.

I've done my homework and have a lot of coffee shop, cafe and roasters to visit and try. But I was wondering if there are any nice coffee gear specialized shop in Manhattan or NYC (Chris Coffee is far away...).

I could be wrong in this, but I'm afraid that if you're looking for more than a few different brewing mechanisms (vac pot, Chemex, etc.) there's not too much in Manhattan. You're well aware of Chris' but you're right, it's not at all close to NYC. Several of the shops have a few brewers and filters for sale but not much more.

Here's to hoping someone else has better news than I do.

I think you're right, I was hoping to be wrong...

But I'll stop by Green Beanery in Toronto, and always have the mail option too - in Toronto I'll be at a friend's home, but for NY I'll just check if the hotel has no problem in receiving packages (even before the check in).

Thanks a lot,

Márcio.

Green Beanery does have tons of neat stuff, but for coffee I hugely recommend Fahrenheit Coffee, they serve custom roasts from Te Aro, as well R Squared to try out Social Coffee, possibly prepared by me! :) R Squared also has a lot of the coffee gear you can see listed on Social's website. Lit (stumptown) and Manic (intelli) on College street are also great bets, as well as a clothing store called Lost and Found on Dundas, which is the only place around serving Metropolis Redline. One last plug for Dark Horse on Spadina, to get Momi to make you a cappuccino.

Chocolate dipped peanut butter biscotti. Awesome.

Chris' Coffee in Albany isn't really out of the way to NYC. You gotta go south, once you hit I-90, the thruway, go east to Albany, yeah there are tolls but from Albany find the Taconic, a slower tollfree road south.

I've done some online business with
http://www.absoluteespresso.com/ in New Jersey

Appears geared to commercial or high-end home. But helpful--friendly to my questions. Been in business 28 yrs.

Looks to be about a 40 minute drive from Manhattan.
