Chris Coffee Carrying Crossland CC1

Postby jfrescki on Fri Sep 16, 2011 7:52 pm

I was really surprised to see Chris Coffee is now carrying the CC1, as I'd say it's direct competition to the Silvano, and cheaper to boot. The Silvano looks still looks sturdier, but if I was shopping in that class, I don't know if I'd spend the extra $300 on Silvano.

It only took 20 seconds to come to steam temperature after brewing. Very impressive.

Looks like it performs well in the video. I bet this hurts Silvia or Ascaso UNO PID sales more than Silvano sales though. The $700 price point is strong for a PID machine but the look is utilitarian.

I opted for the Silvano over similar lesser priced units in part because I wanted a shiny looking machine even if it might become a cleaning chore. How vain of me...

Bill has been a friend for a long time and I wanted to support him number one. I think he has a nice little machine here and I really do not think it is in the same class as the Silvano and for sure not the same price point. I do not believe in carrying machines that are simply duplicates of one another with very minor differences in them. There was a fit in our line up for this machine.

When you take into account the designer, the specs, and the price it is certainly a unique and appealing machine. I haven't used it, but if a friend asked me what machine to consider in this price range it is hard to imagine what I would list before it. Obviously the proof will be in the cup, but from what you can see online it looks like a great product to carry.

I watched the video by SCG before and wasn't impressed at all. But this video has changed that and really let the prospective buyers to see the potential of the machine. Kudos to Chris Coffee for the effort and a very nice video. I really do hope CC1 can and will become the standard recommended entry machine, not the "overpriced" (oops, hope I don't offend anyone :P ) luxurious Silvia.

The price, for the effort and design thought ALONE that went into it, is totally worth it in my opinion. I would've sprung for it if I were to have a SBDU.

As a former (and brief :D ) Silvia owner, the CC1 and Silvano are impressive. I wish they had been available a few years ago.

Both machines address Silvia's shortcomings in the steaming department. The Silvano appears to have more rugged build quality. The CC1 is exciting because getting a PID, thermoblock for steam and programmable preinfusion at that price point is an outstanding value.

I guess my question would be how these machines compare with Silvia in the "forgiveness" department. Silvia is notorious for penalizing distribution errors, probably due to the limited headroom, which really can't support doses larger than 14g-15g. Hopefully some Silvano and CC1 owners will let us know if larger doses can be accommodated.

I would bet that preinfusion on the CC1 might make it more forgiving to barista mistakes.

Wow: $1,148 for a CC1 and a Baratza Vario! I paid $1,547 for a Silvia and Macap M4 back in 2009. I have no doubts which pair is capable of making better espresso. This is a good trend!

Would you be able to go into more details comparing the Silvano and the Crossland CC1? I was originally looking at Silvano and am also wondering how the two compare and why there is a $300 price difference.

I too am wondering the answer these questions. In short, I would probably buy the Crossland CC1 in a heartbeat if I could find more reviews on it.

Also, what type of person/use case is the Crossland CC1 targeted towards? I'm relatively new to the world of espresso and am wanting to make quality straight shots with minimal fuss (i.e. I want to easily tweak the variables without fighting the machine.) Would I be one of the intended targets?

On a different but related note, how do machines get selected for review on this site? The Crossland CC1 is definitely one I'd like to see reviewed.

I could be wrong, but I think you will get a more candid and useful response if you just call Chris Coffee, instead of inviting them to publicly praise one of their machines at the expense of another.

Good point. I certainly feel a bit foolish right now. If/when I get information from them, I'll be sure to post it back here.

EDIT: I've emailed Chris' Coffee asking pretty much what has been asked here. I've also asked their permission to post their answers in this thread. Hopefully in the next day or two, some of these questions will be answered!
