I just changed from the rocky to the quamar m80e. So far I'm loving it. Couple things though- it's perhaps a bit messier than I like, clumps a little more than I expected from reviews but hey that's ok. The taste difference is huge compared to the rocky. Anyway enjoy the ceado!

Thanks! I am liking the E6 so far, and getting used to having a doser...for now. I may upgrade to a K30 at some point if I want to go doserless again. It was a tough decision between the Ceado and the Quamar. I went with the Ceado because of the clumping, and because the Ceado is possibly a bit quieter? I'll be making one my PF's botomless soon so I can check my distribution and tamping.

There is a big difference in the cup compared to the Rocky though. Rocky has now been delegated to Aeropress and pour-over duty.

Wouldn't it be great if there was a place that had all these grinders set up with one machine to pull shots with for comparison?

Yes that would be awesome. It's so tough to know which grinder will suit each person in their own setting to.

It's big....quite a bit larger than Rocky! Very sturdy, well built, and quiet. It's really working quite well for me so far. I have the timer dialed in for just about the exact amount for a double. One push of the start button, and I get enough for a double in the doser. It also works great for grinding on demand too. I can toss in enough beans for a double, and it grinds them just as it would a hopper full of beans. I've tried it both ways, and it seems to work well either way. Which is great, cause I wasn't sure I was going to like the doser....never used one before. Not much left behind in the doser either. There's a bit left behind in the chute into the doser, but a quick brush makes clearing an easy task.

The step-less adjustment is awesome! I can dial in a 1-2 second change in the extraction if need be....could never do that with the Rocky! You could hope for 4-5 sec change on Rocky.

I compared shots with both grinders....I get it now....Grinder, Grinder, Grinder!! Big difference in shots, mostly in the mouthfeel and smoothness. I'm using some beans from a local roaster that are kinda "eh" at best. They're best suited for large milk based drinks, which is what they mostly serve up in house.
Can't wait for the beans to show up from Compass Coffee today!!! Looking forward to a comparison between both grinders with Mike's beans.
I have a Rocky and I use it exactly like you do. I am not ready to upgrade yet (I just bought a new machine) but it was really good info. Thanks!

I hope you're still subscribed to this thread. I just gave up on a Macap, just don't like a doser.
I am looking at a quamar m80e. The price is very attractive. Although you mentioned messy. I dislike messy. :?: :?:

Yes after several months of using this grinder I am still impressed with it. Now as to messy- I switch this grinder back and forth for all my grinding needs espresso to French press. Anything over the espresso grinding is messy. The espresso end is decently clean grinding and I am happy with it.

Hello, I have pulled a few shots on the m80e, i tightened the grind a bit and i am in the ball park-what difference have you found between the rocky & your m80e shots ? Rocky shots werent bad with little grind retention.

Thanks, WS

thank you for the response. my Quamar landed today. I have only unpacked it and plugged it in. Since I'm a beginner it takes me awhile to dial in, so i might not do it till Friday. *maybe* :P

When I use my Rocky my shots taste smokey. Like the beans are burnt.
Same beans with the quamar and im getting the taste quality I'm expecting. Balanced and layered with flavor.
