Any Canadians on the board who have bought a roaster like the Gene Cafe and have it shipped to Canada? Any problems with duties? The Gene Cafe is not readily available in Canada it seems so if that is the machine I buy it would have to be shipped from the US.

The Behmor and Hottop can be bought in Canada.

Hello Mike.

I think that you can get it from Green beanery in Toronto.

They are not listing it right now but they probably can get it for you.

false assumption..... they don't get anything other than what you see there. If it's not in the store or online, they just say "Nope..."

Have you specifically asked them about the Gene Cafe? They are still listed as the sole Canadian distributor on the manufacturer's web site. It's probably not a good sign if they removed the product listing, though.

As far as ordering from the States, the usual caveats apply. Don't have it sent by a courier ground service, and expect to pay sales tax on the declared value when it's delivered. I've never imported a coffee roaster, but I had a look at the customs tariff and can't find anything that would apply to coffee roasters. I can't suggest a specific store, but I'd probably get it from somewhere like Sweet Maria's that has a lot of experience shipping to Canada.

If you're not set on the Gene Cafe, the Hottop can be purchased for about C$800 including tax and shipping from ecafecanada in Quebec. You're probably looking at $660-700 for the Gene Cafe after tax and shipping.
