I tried to search on the maker of Brasilia Cappuccino but no have much data.
Wonder if it is a very old brand or it just not popular.
I ran into one review but I need to do a little more homework.
What is ULKA pump vs. Procon pump? And why would it makes a different in espresso if the beans are less than "fresh"?

* I typed ULKA and it shows alot of descriptions but not the basic info of meaning ULKA and its purpose. [sorry for being a newbie  ]

**As you can see I'm still debating on the type of machine for my home use. Currently my Starbucks Barista is not giving me a consistent brew temp. My espresso [with the Mazzer SJ] taste bitter & sour sometime and some taste better. All under one sitting.

If they make a consumer model, I am unaware of such - it may be a Brasilia commercial machine

If this was a Craigslist or ebay listing - they may mean a Brasilia machine - and are calling it a cappuccino machine simply because of the steaming ability.

The most common model, I believe is DEL1 - is a plentiful machine marketed also under I think several machines.

Dependiing on price and condition, it could be a decent machine for home use. I almost bought one for home use, price wasn't low enough.

Simon, perhaps you could explain why you are looking to buy a machine in the UK when you live in Southern California . . .

Simon,
ULKA is a common brand of vibe pump used in pour-over machines. They are relatively noisy and inexpensive but work fine. The Procon is a common brand of rotary pump which are found most commonly on commercial machines that are plumbed in. They are more expensive, more heavy duty, much quieter, and generally need to be hooked up to a continuous water supply (plumbed-in). I'm also curious for the answer to Zin's question - I'm not sure if the Brasilia Cappuccino is available in the States. As a newb, it would be helpful for you to read the Guide to Espresso machines and similar articles found on this website. Michael

ULKA vs Procon - ULKA pump is a brand of a vibratory pump; similar to the one in your Starbucks Barista. Procon is a brand of rotary pump - the pump will not make that vibrating noise, it is quieter. Most machines with a rotary pump imply a direct connection to a water supply whereas vibe pump machines will have a reservoir in the machine that will supply the water.

BTW, you're failing you're homework. You need to re-read Espresso 101 and possibly quite a bit of the FAQs http://www.home-barista.com/faqs-and-fa...somachines :P

Caeffe:
I did do my homework but perhaps not as quick learner as some of you. I did not see any association of ULKA as acronym(as brand) for vibe pump. Perhaps, I will review once again and look for a directory of acronyms and references.

Do appreciate you guys taken the time to reply.

Mark wrote a good espresso glossary, but I'm not aware of an exhaustive acronym listing. You can pick up many via the context when searching. For example, searching on threads with "ulka" in the subject yields good matches. Forum search tips offers other self-service suggestions.
