Bezzera espresso machine: Medea or Z07P or Selenia

Postby Marc on Mon Oct 04, 2010 8:18 pm

Hey So I'm on a budget and here in Canada there's not a lot of sub 1500$ hx machine deal.

But Bezzera has been offering some interesting choice:

Medea: HX, E61 group head, 1350 watt heating element, 1,5 liter boiler, vibration pump, 1500$

Z07p: Same thing without the E61 group head, smaller, 1200 watt heating element. 1300$

Selenia: hx, Lever group head(not sure if it's E61), 1200 watt heating, 0,5L boiler, seems like a smaller z07p. 1100$, real bargain!

So here's my question: Which one would you consider the best buy for the price? I drink mostly cappuccino and it's more for a personal use.

Or should I wait and get money for the andreja or Rocket..?

The Selenia is not an HX, but a single boiler.

Jim, that site does mention an HX.

"The group are heated with the heating exchanger water by the traditional thermosiphonic heating system."

It has a 1/2 liter boiler and a steam/brew switch. Moreover, they say the heat exhanger is for the thermosyphon -- check the text for the real HX machines, and they say "internal heat exchanger ... steam and brew at the same time."

But go ahead an buy it, what do I know?

I agree with Jim, heat exchangers don't have steam or pump switches; the Selenia photo below clearly shows both. While we're nitpicking, the driptray cover is on backwards.

The Medea is a "steal" at that price - hurry up. It has the same hydraulics as the Galatea Domus and the "generation before this" ECM German machines (Mechanica, Technika).

I'll wait for my commission check at Chateau Frontenac where we can sip some cappy's. :D
