Best place to buy the Mahlkönig K30ES Vario?

Postby CouleurCafé on Tue Dec 07, 2010 2:35 am

Hello expert baristas,

First post here. I've had a Andreja Premium/Mazzer Mini for 5 years and I am really feeling the urge to upgrade the whole setup to maximize convenience and consistency. Machine will be a PID'd double boiler but that is for another post.

Many hours (spent reading HB & CG), I have decided that either the ProM and the K30ES vario are the ideal grinders. The ProM feels a bit to new and I am strongly leaning towards the K30.

One thing I can't find much info about is the right place to buy Mahlkönig grinders. So far, I bought all my equipment from Chris Coffee but I will have to look elsewhere for Mahlkönig. Best prices I have seen so far are at Prima but I know nothing of them. I would prefer not to pay retail but after dealing with Chris and his incredible techs (still offering support on a 5 yr old machine!!!) I would rather go for the very best service.

So, Mahlkönig K30 owners, where did you purchase your grinder?

Thanks,
Max

Since you're in S.F. you can drive down to Belmont and purchase directly from the Mahlkonig distributor.

This came up in a previous thread - roughly page four of this one...

Mahlkönig K30 ES/Vario v. ProM v. (Baratza) VARIO Home

The three places with the best prices suggested were Fortuna (Coffeeshopsolutions.com), Prima, and directly from Mahlkonig. Approximate prices were prices were listed in the thread, but I have no idea if they remain the same or not now as it is roughly a year later.

That's largely out of date. More recent news (including mine): Mahlkoenig Pro-M User Reports?.

Until distribution is in place, I would call Mahlkonig USA direct for best pricing, if you are interested in the ProM.

I bought mine from Nasi at Coffee Shop Solutions. I'm not sure much better of a deal can be found.

Dealers have them & based on what a friend just paid Mahlkonig USA I'd suggest checking with Nasi http://www.coffeeshopsolutions.com/ before buying as his price is lower.

So far, the prices I got from these vendors are quite close to one another. Anyone ever dealt with service at Mahlkönig USA or Fortuna? I guess service is less critical for a grinder than for a machine but there are enough electronics on the K30 to have potential issues down the road.

Only while Mahlkönig was in Belmont . . . Brian was great to work with.
