Beginners guide to buying an espresso machine - Page 2

Postby seen on Sun Dec 05, 2010 5:16 am

hello all again,

i have checked a bunch of grinders and machines. Vario is a bit too digital for my taste, Trespade is too manual, so i am seeking something in between. (Macap M4 perhaps?) suggestions needed here.
the BZ07 looks to be just perfect for me, only one open question: do i understand correctly that this is a one boiler machine, which means that the steam and the group is using the same boiler? if so,
0) can i use steam while making my coffee? (latte)
1) if not, what is the recovery time?

cheers,

I think you misunderstand; Trespade is the name of the burr set (conical). See Grinder burr types explained for more details. The Le'Lit PL53 and Nemox Lux grinders are two examples of electric grinders using this burr set.

Correct. It can brew/steam at the same time because it's a heat exchanger espresso machine. See Espresso Machines 101 for more details.

From everything I read about the BZ07, the need for the usual e61 cooling flushes is dramatically reduced. That's the reason why I decided to order one, and I'm waiting for delivery (supposedly on a boat approaching the East Coast :-) ). I could not picture my wife having to deal with a e61 cooling flush ritual (even if she has managed the Silvia temp surfing process pretty well), and I wanted a machine that required a minimal amount of cooling. The BZ07 heat exchanger seems to work slightly differently from an e61, and the electrically heated (with a thermostat) group seems to get less overheated than the thermosiphon one on the e61 machines

I don't understand this statement. You can use the digital capabilities if you want them, but I weigh and do single shot grinds all the time with the Vario. You do not have to use the timer at all. At issue is how well the grinder grinds the coffee, and it is very capable in that respect.
